How We Love/F*ck, a new play from powerhouse documentary playwright + actor Lillian Isabella, is a sex-positive theatre piece in response to the #MeToo movement where she looks to celebrate female sexuality, and how fun sex can be.
The play is inspired by documentary-style interviews with a tribe of 28 diverse female-identifying individuals, ranging from 25 to 89 years old. Through candid monologues created from the interviews, Lillian begins to discover her own sexual agency, the healing power of ecstatic experience, and the importance of sharing this new understanding with the world.
Brought to you by Edge In Motion Productions, How We Love/F*ck was directed by Lorna Ventura and produced by Lindsay-Elizabeth Hand. It had its World Premiere at Cherry Lane Theatre, New York’s longest continuously running Off-Broadway theater, from September 25th to October 6th, 2019.

What's the show about?
Over the course of 2018, Lillian interviewed 28 different women.
How would you describe your first orgasm?
What makes a great lover?
How would you describe a woman as the subject of desire?
She asked the women these and many more questions, recorded the interviews, transcribed them by hand and wove them into a series of interconnected monologues.
21 of the 28 women she interviewed, of varying ages and ethnicities, will be portrayed in the production. We’re going to cast five actors total and each actor will play 4-5 different characters throughout the course of the play.

Lillian’s own personal narrative poetry provides the connective tissue between the character monologues.
How We Love/F*ck at the Nuyorican
Lillian recently performed these poems at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe in NYC on July 7th, 2019.
The poems are really personal and vulnerable and it was a powerful (and laugh filled) evening.

Why did you create a show about sex?Lillian created this show out of a desire to have a sex-positive celebration of female sexuality in the wake of the #MeToo movement.
This is about more than putting up a play, it's about celebrating the power of female sexuality and the joy it can bring. Come visit us at Cherry Lane as we bring this show to life and create a safe space to celebrate female sexuality in a historic theatre in the West Village. |
